Bhimtal Lake

Bhimtal Lake is a scenic body of water situated in the town of Bhimtal, within the Nainital district of Uttarakhand, India. Enclosed by verdant hills and featuring several small islands, it ranks among the largest lakes in the area and attracts numerous tourists. The lake derives its name from Bhima, a prominent figure among the Pandavas in the Indian epic Mahabharata. The place is quite touristy, and if you are with your family, especially kids, you should include this in your itinerary. Kids can enjoy boating, visit the aquarium on the island, and feel a bit adventurous by taking a pleasant trek to Hidimba Parvat and observing a large collection of preserved butterflies and moths at the Butterfly Research Centre.

If you want to visit a place where you can see the majestic Himalayas, waterfalls, orchards and fruit farms, nature walks, and many more, we suggest you go to Mukteshwar. This charming hill station is located just 43 km from Bhimtal, and if you start early in the morning, you can reach Mukteshwar in less than 2 hours. Mukteshwar Temple is a must-visit whether you are religious or not. Situated at an altitude of about 2,312 meters, the temple offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and the majestic Himalayan peaks.

A short trek from Mukteshwar leads to the Bhalu Gaad Waterfalls, a hidden gem surrounded by dense forests. The falls are about 60 feet high and create a natural pool at the base.

Kasar Devi

People often ignore this serene village, which is located nearly 10 km away. Its tranquillity, views of the Himalayas, and forest trails are among the best in the region. Swami Vivekananda visited this place on foot during his travel days. The cave is still there, and you can visit it after asking the locals. Kasar Devi has attracted writers, artists, and spiritual seekers from around the world.

The Kasar Devi Temple, which honours the goddess, Kasar Devi, is the centrepiece of the village and a well-known landmark. This temple has been around since the 2nd century CE and is thought to have a powerful magnetic field because it's situated on the Van Allen Belt, much like Machu Picchu in Peru and Stonehenge in the UK.

Just a quick drive from Kasar Devi, Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is a paradise for anyone who loves nature. You can spot all sorts of plants and animals here, including leopards, barking deer, and a ton of different birds. Plus, the Zero Point in Binsar gives you breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountains, like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Kedarnath.

About 16 km from Kasar Devi, the Katarmal Sun Temple is a 9th-century temple dedicated to the Sun God. It is an architectural marvel and one of the few sun temples in India, offering insight into the region’s ancient history.

Kainchi Dham gained international fame after being visited by notable figures such as Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, and Hollywood actress Julia Roberts.

Kainchi Dham is a popular spiritual spot and pilgrimage site nestled in the Kumaon, approximately 20 km from Bhimtal. This ashram is well-known for its connection to Neem Karoli Baba, a highly respected Hindu saint famous for his miraculous deeds and guidance to countless followers on their spiritual journeys.
